Gate Inserts and Nozzle Tips: Matching Gate Geometry to Resin and Cavity
The gate is the last restriction the melt passes through before entering the cavity. Its geometry controls fill rate, pressure drop, and where the part freezes off.
Gate Type
Edge gates, pin gates, and submarine gates each suit different part geometries and resin behaviors. A gate that is too small restricts flow and raises injection pressure; one that is too large leaves a visible vestige and slows freeze-off.
Matching to Resin
High-flow resins fill through smaller gates; shear-sensitive or glass-filled materials need larger, more generous gates to avoid degradation and fiber breakage. Nozzle tips must match the machine barrel and the gate layout.
Matching to Cavity
Gate placement should balance fill across the cavity and avoid jetting into thin sections. Symmetric, balanced gate layouts reduce warpage and cycle time.
